
Birmingham is the largest city in the state of Alabama and located in Jefferson county. The Birmingham metro area had an estimated population of about 1,212,848 according to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2009. Known as “the Magic City” Birmingham is geographically located in the heart of Alabama and is an important hub for the south. Birmingham is located between Atlanta, Memphis, Chattanooga, Mobile, Nashville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Jackson and Meridian. Interstates and railroads connect Birmingham Alabama to the south and stop for all kinds of business.
Birmingham has a rich culture of artist, musicians, legal professionals, bankers, and students. Birmingham has a rich historical past and host many events, museums, games, colleges, food and other entertainment opportunities.
Founded in 1871 Birmingham quickly became a meca for the mining and steel industry. Soon Birmingham became know as “The Pittsburgh of the South” due to amount of steel and iron production and the railroad activity. Birmingham not only helped Alabama make the map but played a vital role in the growth of the south and the United States.
Birmingham has major colleges of medicine, dentistry, law, nursing, pharmacy, optometry, art, and engineering. UAB School of Medicine(University of Alabama Birmingham) is world renowned for it’s cutting edge medical technology and excellent doctors. The University of Alabama School of Dentistry is also highly skilled and uses the most modern technology.
Birmingham is also home to 3 of the 5 law schools in Alabama. Miles Law School, Birmingham School of Law, and Cumberland School of Law.
