Dexter Avenue Baptist Church was home to pastor Martin Luther King, Jr. from 1954 to 1960. Dr. King was the pastor and headed The Montgomery Improvement Association. The Association organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 and was head headquartered from Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.
