Fort Toulouse was colonial French Louisiana’s easternmost outpost. Located at the Tallapoosa and the Coosa rivers it was established in 1717. After the Treaty of Paris the Fort was abandoned in 1763. In 1814 Fort Toulouse was reestablished by Andrew Jackson after Jackson’s defeat at Battle of Horseshoe Bend.

The fort was known as the Post of Alabama and named after local Upper Creek Indians. Fort Toulouse had a profound effect on the area where men ended up settling farms with french and indian woman in the following years. After the French and Indian War the fort would soon take prisoner to the effects of mother nature. It is located southwest of Wetumpka, Alabama just off of US 231. The Fort is located on the List of National Historic Landmarks in Alabama.
