Foster Auditorium

Vivian Malone was escorted past Foster Auditorium by Federal marshals, U.S. Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach, and The Alabama National Guard in 1963. Moving past Alabama governor George C. Wallace it was soon known as the “Stand In The Schoolhouse Door.” This became a major step forward in desegregating the University of Alabama. It also is know an important event in the Civil Rights Movement in the US. Foster Auditorium was renovated in 2009 and is currently used by volleyballs and basketballs programs. It became a  National Historic Landmark on April 5, 2005.
