Built by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad the Montgomery Union Station was a major point of travel for the south. The trainshed was designed with bridge-building technique that would soon become a staple of American engineering. The trainshed closed in 1975 and the building was renovated for commercial tenants. The shed was paved over and host a number of events and concerts every year. In 1976 it became a National Historic Landmark.
