Moundville Site

Known as Moundville Archaeological Park the site represents an important part of the Southern United States and Mississippian culture. Moundville is the second largest Middle Mississippian era sites. Native Americans occupied the site from 1000 AD to 1450 AD. The site is one of the best Archaeological sites found in the country as is administered by the University of Alabama Museums. Located on whopping 172 acres the site contains 32 mounds and was made a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
