Located at the at the Marshall Space Flight Center the Redstone Test Stand is the oldest static firing facility. The stand was essential for building and testing the Mercury/Redstone and Jupiter-C vehicles. Built in1953 the large steel structure towered high over Huntville and soon launched Huntsville as a Leader in the space race. The Jupiter-C vehicles and Mercury/Redstone were responsible for the first U.S. manned spaceflight and the first U.S. satellite in space.
