One of two surviving South Dakota-class battleships, The USS Alabama was commissioned in 194. Spending 40 months inWorld War II’s in the great Pacific it was one of the most decorated ships of all time. Fighting 26 battles against the Japanese and winning 9 battle stars.
Enjoy awesome view from the inside of the anti-aircraft guns and main gun turrets. The USS Alabama was opened as a museum January 9 1965 and was soon joined by the Gato-class submarine USS Drum. The Uss Drum later was moved onshore due to damaged by Huricane George in 1998. The Battleship Memorial Park is owned by the state of Alabama and manged by the USS Battleship Commission.
