Rising high above the city of Birmingham , Alabama stands the worlds largest cast iron statue . Vulcan is 56-foot (17 m) tall and depicts the god of the fire and forge Vulcan. It was made for the (1904 World’s Fair) in St. Louis, Missouri and the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1903. Italian-born sculptor Giuseppe Moretti designed Vulcan from the ground up. Vulcan was rebuilt at the Alabama State Fairgrounds. His arrow was lost while being shipped on the train and he would soon be holding advertising items. During the 1920′s a Coca-Cola bottle, a Heinz pickle and even a ice cream cone. He was moved to red Mountain in 1936.
